Who is Horse Feathers Equine Center? Horse Feathers Equine Center is a non-profit horse rescue in Guthrie, Oklahoma, founded in 2006 by Cheri White Owl, its President and CEO. It rescues abused, neglected and unwanted horses, gives them medical care, feed, gentling and training so they can be adopted, and keeps a lifetime home for horses that can't be. HempMy Pet supplies the rescue with its 5,000 mg equine oil, which is part of the daily routine for Rocky, a gelding now being ridden lightly again.

Rocky's story

Rocky's thoracic spine X-ray from when he arrived at Horse Feathers
Rocky's thoracic spine X-ray from Oakridge Equine Hospital, taken after he arrived.

Rocky came to Horse Feathers after years of being ridden in a saddle that didn't fit. It had come down hard on his withers, and it left real damage along his back.

There was no quick fix. Under the care of their veterinarians, the Horse Feathers team built Rocky a program and stuck with it for five years:

  • Veterinary care
  • Chiropractic
  • Stim therapy
  • Herbal support
  • HempMy Pet, every day

Today Rocky is being ridden lightly again. The team recently redid his back work, and he's still on the oil.

"…after 5 years of being here [he was] able to be ridden lightly… We HIGHLY recommend it."

— Cheri White Owl, President/CEO, Horse Feathers Equine Center

Rocky's comeback came from a whole program of care led by his veterinarians. We're proud to be one part of it. Every horse is different.

What Horse Feathers does

Rescue

Takes in abused, neglected, unwanted and slaughter-bound horses, and helps horses and owners hit by disasters, like the 2013 Oklahoma storms and floods (FEMA).

Rehab & adoption

Medical care, feed, gentling and training to get horses adoptable — and a lifetime sanctuary for the ones who can't be placed.

Community

Education for owners and the public, events for disadvantaged kids, and a Hay Bank and Blanket Bank for local owners in need (Guthrie News Page).

The routine, for a horse like Rocky

It's a pump, not a dropper — one pump is about 20 mg, so you count pumps instead of guessing.

Your horse weighs Pumps per serving
About 500 lb (pony) 4–7 pumps
About 1,000 lb 7–13 pumps
About 1,500 lb (draft) 10–20 pumps

Ranges follow the 0.3–0.6 mg/kg range used in the Tarleton studies. Start at the low end. For everyday use, give it once daily and judge it over two to three weeks; for a known event like the farrier or trailer, give one serving 1–4 hours ahead. A bottle holds about 250 pumps — 3–4 weeks for an average horse. Showing or racing? Cannabinoids are prohibited under FEI and USEF rules. Check with your veterinarian if your horse is on medication.
