HempMy Pet Clinical Trials — University-Studied CBD for Dogs & Horses
Dedicated to Pets Since 2015 — real university research, not just marketing claims.
The pet CBD market is worth hundreds of millions of dollars a year — yet the vast majority of products on the shelf have never been tested in a controlled clinical study. Not one trial. Not one peer-reviewed paper. HempMy Pet is different. We've put our own full-spectrum hemp oil through two university clinical trials — one in dogs with Colorado State University, and one in horses with Tarleton State University (part of the Texas A&M University System). Because we breed, grow, and formulate our own hemp on our Colorado farm using certified-organic practices, we can stand behind research most brands simply can't.
Trial 1 — Dogs: Canine Osteoarthritis Pain (Colorado State University)
Dr. Robin Downing, DVM, MS · Lori Kogan, Ph.D. · Peter W. Hellyer, DVM
Colorado State University · Published in the Journal of the AHVMA
Kogan L, Hellyer P, Downing R. The Use of Cannabidiol-Rich Hemp Oil Extract to Treat Canine Osteoarthritis-Related Pain: A Pilot Study. Journal of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association. 2020;58:35–45.
Independent research: per the journal's disclosure, HempMy Pet supplied the oil and reimbursed clinic costs but "had no input in the study design or interpretation of results," and the authors have no financial relationship with the company.
- 93%+ of dogs showed a benefit
- 94% of owners reported improved quality of life
- Decreased pain scores and improved mobility
Trial 2 — Horses: Behavioral & Transport Stress (Tarleton State University)
Dr. Kimberly Guay, Ph.D., P.A.S.
Tarleton State University Equine Center (Texas A&M System)
The study compared two doses (0.3 and 0.6 mg/kg body weight) of HempMy Pet's cultivar-specific Full Spectrum Abacus hemp oil. The higher dose was more effective overall; blood levels peaked about 4 hours after administration, CBD was non-detectable within 24 hours, and no long-lasting effects were observed.
Turner PL, Guay KA, et al. Cannabidiol supplementation and physiological response in transported horses. Journal of Animal Science. 2022;100(Suppl. 3):33.
- Significantly fewer stress behaviors (kicking, aggression, pawing, vocalization)
- Lower cortisol after transport vs. control
- Lower post-transport body temperature

Why We Can Stand Behind Real Research
Most "pet CBD" brands buy bulk extract from third parties — sometimes imported — so they have no consistent product to study. We're vertically integrated: we breed our own hemp genetics, grow them on our Colorado farm using organic practices, and formulate every batch in-house under human-grade standards. That consistency — the same cultivar-specific, full-spectrum oil, every time — is exactly what made it possible to put our product in front of university researchers and publish the results.
The Researchers
Dr. Robin Downing, DVM, MS
World-renowned veterinary pain specialist; oversaw the canine osteoarthritis trial with Colorado State University researchers.
Dr. Kimberly Guay, Ph.D., P.A.S.
Lead researcher at the Tarleton State University Equine Center; studies the physiological and behavioral responses of animals to CBD.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does HempMy Pet have clinical studies?
Yes. HempMy Pet has completed two university clinical trials using its own full-spectrum hemp CBD oil — a 90-day canine osteoarthritis study with Colorado State University researchers, and an equine behavioral and transport-stress study with Tarleton State University. This is rare; most pet CBD brands have no clinical research at all.
Which universities studied HempMy Pet CBD?
Colorado State University's College of Veterinary Medicine (dogs) and Tarleton State University's Equine Center, part of the Texas A&M University System (horses).
Are HempMy Pet products clinically tested?
The same full-spectrum hemp extract used across HempMy Pet's products is the oil that was used in both university trials, and every batch is third-party lab tested with a Certificate of Analysis.
Where can I read the published studies?
The canine study was published in the Journal of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association (Vol. 58, 2020) — the full journal PDF is linked above. The equine study was published as a scientific abstract in the Journal of Animal Science (2022), with a plain-language summary via IVC Journal and independent coverage from dvm360 and American Farriers Journal.
