The carrier oil in a CBD product matters more than most pet owners realize. At HempMy Pet, we use certified-organic virgin coconut oil as a carrier for our full-spectrum hemp — not the cheaper, heavily refined MCT oil many brands use. Here's why.
What Makes Virgin Coconut Oil Different
All coconut oil is extracted somehow, but virgin coconut oil is the least refined: it's pressed from fresh coconut and left unrefined, so it keeps more of the bioavailable phytonutrients and a stronger antioxidant profile than regular or refined coconut oil. It's studied as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory and is a great source of medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs).
Virgin Coconut Oil vs Fractionated (MCT) Oil
Many hemp companies use fractionated coconut oil — often labeled "MCT oil" — as a cheaper carrier. It's heavily refined, and the refining process strips out lauric acid, the saturated fatty acid that makes up about half of coconut oil and carries its natural antimicrobial properties. What's left is a flavorless liquid with the most beneficial component removed. We'd rather keep it in.
How HempMy Pet Uses It
We infuse certified-organic, sustainably sourced virgin coconut oil with our own full-spectrum Colorado hemp extract — CBD, CBG, CBC, terpenes, flavonoids, and tocopherols, all under 0.3% THC — so the whole-plant compounds work together (the entourage effect). Every batch is third-party tested for purity and potency.
Shop CBD Coconut Oil
Try our virgin CBD coconut oil for dogs and cats — a gentle 100mg jar for small pets and a 500mg jar for medium and large dogs. You can add it to food, treats, or apply it topically to dry spots. (Tip: scoop with a clean spoon rather than letting your pet lick the jar, to keep the product fresh.)
