Seasonal Dog Treats for Fall

As fall comes around, we start to crave all things spiced, pumpkin, and cozy. However, we aren't the only ones who enjoy these types of treats! Fall is a season full of dog-friendly foods, check out a complete list here, that can easily be turned into fun and tasty treats for your four-legged friend.

Below are three of my favorite dog-friendly recipes to make each fall. Helpful tip: If your dog has a hard time taking hemp products directly, add HempMy Pet coconut oil and hemp seed oil to the top of each treat for a more enjoyable experience. Just be sure to check the bottle to make sure you are giving your pup the right amount.

Want to take the time and guesswork out of giving your dog treats they'll love? Check out our ready-made small-batch pumpkin harvest dog treats in 2mg and 5mg servings. They are a pup-favorite!

Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Dog Treats

Limited ingredients and simple preparation!

2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
2 large eggs
1/2 cup canned pumpkin
2 tablespoons peanut butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Whisk together the flour, eggs, pumpkin, peanut butter, salt, and cinnamon in a bowl. Add water as needed to make the dough workable, but the dough should be dry and stiff. Roll the dough into a 1/2-inch-thick roll and cut into 1/2-inch pieces, or use a cookie cutter.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until hard, about 40 minutes.

Apple, Bacon, and Cheddar Dog Treats

A tasty combination of grated apple, shredded cheese, and crumbled bacon!

1 apple, peeled & grated (no pits, seeds, or core)
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 1/2 cups white flour
1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
1/4 cup cooked bacon, chopped into bits
3 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
1 egg, a splash of olive oil, and a splash of milk to bind

  1. Preheat the oven to 375F. Line a baking sheet with a silicone mat or parchment paper.
  2. Whisk the olive oil and egg together until well combined.
  3. Add the milk and grated apple, then whisk.
  4. Add the whole wheat flour and white flour; mix until just combined.
  5. Add most of the cheddar, bacon, and parsley. Mix until combined. (If it's too sticky, add a bit more flour. If it's too dry, add a bit more milk.)
  6. On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough for 30 seconds until smooth.
  7. Roll the dough into a 10-inch circle, about 1/2 inch thick. Use a bone-shaped cookie cutter to punch out each treat.
  8. Sprinkle some of the remaining bacon bits, cheese, and parsley on top and lightly press them down, then place on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Bake until light golden, about 20 minutes.
  10. Cool completely and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or the freezer for 6 months.

"Candy Corn" Frozen Treats

A yummy layered treat for those warmer fall days. (Never give actual candy to any dog.)

1 to 1 1/2 cups plain non-fat yogurt
1-2 small bananas
1/2 cup canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling)
3 oz paper cups or popsicle molds

  1. Put a spoonful of yogurt into the bottom of the paper cups (about 1/2 cup total).
  2. Freeze for 1 to 1.5 hours.
  3. Add a spoonful of yogurt/pumpkin mixture (1/2 cup yogurt mixed with 1/2 cup pumpkin) to the cups.
  4. Freeze for 1 to 1.5 hours.
  5. Add a spoonful of yogurt/banana mixture (1-2 mashed bananas blended with 1/2 cup yogurt) to the cups.
  6. Freeze for 1 to 1.5 hours.
  7. Peel off the paper cup or remove from the mold and serve.

There you have it, a variety of tasty seasonal treats your dog is sure to "fall" in love with. And if you'd rather skip the baking, our organic hemp dog treats are ready whenever your pup is.
