CBD
CBD (cannabidiol) is the most abundant, best-studied cannabinoid in hemp — the non-intoxicating foundation of full-spectrum pet products.

CBD for Pets: The Full-Spectrum Foundation
CBD, short for cannabidiol, is the most abundant and best-studied cannabinoid in hemp — and it's the backbone of every HempMy Pet oil, treat, and balm. We've grown our own strain-specific hemp on our certified-organic Colorado farm since 2016, so the CBD your dog, cat, or horse gets is whole-plant and full-spectrum, never a lab-made isolate. If you're new to hemp for pets, CBD is the place to start.
What Is CBD?
CBD is a naturally occurring compound found in the hemp plant. It's non-intoxicating, meaning it won't make your pet "high" the way THC would. Hemp is legally defined as cannabis containing less than 0.3% THC, and our oils are third-party tested to confirm they stay under that line. CBD is one of more than a hundred cannabinoids in hemp, working alongside its parent compound CBG and others.
Where CBD Comes From
Most pet brands buy CBD from a broker. We grow it. HempMy Pet breeds its own hemp strains, cultivates them without pesticides or herbicides on our organic Colorado farm, and formulates every batch in-house under human-grade standards. That seed-to-sale control is why our extract is consistent, clean, and never China-sourced. The CBD arrives inside a full-spectrum hemp extract — carrying CBG, CBC, CBDV, and the plant's natural terpenes along with it.
How CBD Works With Your Pet's Body
Dogs, cats, and horses all have an endocannabinoid system (ECS) — a network of receptors that helps regulate mood, comfort, appetite, sleep, and immune response. CBD interacts with this system to help your pet's body do what it already does naturally: stay in balance. The American Kennel Club has a useful overview of CBD and a dog's body if you want to go deeper.
What CBD May Support
We don't make medical claims — hemp is a supplement, not a drug. What owners most often reach for it for is everyday wellness: a sense of calm, comfortable joints and mobility, healthy skin and coat, normal digestion, and graceful aging.
HempMy Pet's evidence here is real. In a 90-day study of 30 dogs with chronic joint discomfort — overseen by Dr. Robin Downing, DVM, with researchers from Colorado State University — roughly 93% of the dogs showed benefit and 94% of owners reported an improved quality of life. You can read more on our CBD pain study page. For horses, a study with Tarleton State University found a single dose reduced measures of stress during transport.
CBD in Full-Spectrum vs Isolate
A CBD isolate is just one molecule. Our full-spectrum extract delivers CBD in company — with CBG, CBC, and terpenes — so the compounds can work together. That cooperative behavior is the entourage effect, and it's why we've never sold an isolate. Whole plant, the way it grew.
Is CBD Safe for Pets?
When used appropriately, CBD is considered well tolerated in dogs, cats, and horses. The most common effects are mild — a little drowsiness or a soft stool if you give too much — and usually resolve by lowering the amount. Start low, go slow, and give it a week or two to settle in. Talk with your veterinarian before starting, especially if your pet is on medication, pregnant, or nursing.
HempMy Pet Products With CBD
Every product we make is built on full-spectrum CBD. For dogs, shop our CBD hemp oil for dogs — the gentle 250mg for small dogs up to the 1000mg for large dogs — plus our organic CBD dog treats. Cat parents can shop CBD for cats, and for the barn there's our CBD for horses olive-oil blend.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will CBD make my dog high?
No. CBD is non-intoxicating, and our full-spectrum oils contain less than 0.3% THC — not enough to cause a high. Your pet stays clear-headed.
What does CBD do for dogs?
Owners use it to support everyday calm, comfortable joints and mobility, skin and coat health, and healthy aging. Think daily wellness support, not a cure for any condition.
How much CBD should I give my pet?
Follow the dosing on the specific product page and start low, increasing slowly over a week or two. Dosing is based on your pet's weight, which is why we make multiple strengths.
Is CBD oil the same as hemp seed oil?
Not quite. Hemp seed oil is a nutritious carrier pressed from the seeds; CBD comes from the flower and leaves. We use hemp seed oil and other organic carriers to deliver our full-spectrum CBD extract.
Can cats have CBD?
Yes — cats have an endocannabinoid system too. We make lower-strength formulas designed specifically for cats so you can match the dose to a smaller body.
